CHATTOGRAM, April 18, 2025 (BSS) - Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq E Azam today laid emphasis on bringing underprivileged children back to the mainstream of society.
He said this while speaking as chief guest at a discussion on “Bringing street children back to the mainstream of the society and the state”.
Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid addressed the function as special guest.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) organized the event with the theme “A safe shelter and a bright future are the rights of all children” this afternoon.
Earlier, the advisers visited the Integrated Child Rehabilitation Center and the Government Children’s Home, a safe custody center for children and adolescents under Hathazari upazila of the district.
Freedom Fighter Farooq E Azam said it is not possible to build a beautiful society by leaving a section of the society deprived of their rights.
He said people of all sections have the right to basic rights, because they are all citizen of this country.
“The government is also determined to ensure the rights of unprivileged children. They should have scope to involve more in the society by ensuring their participation in education, sports and cultural activities,” he added.
Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid called for all to work together for ensuring education, shelter and healthcare facilities for the poor children.
"Everyone should work together with the government and the local communities to ensure quality life for the poor children,” she added.
CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz presided over the function while City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin, 34 Engineer Construction Brigade Commander Brigadier General Md. Shamsul Alam, Chattogram Range DIG Ahsan Habib Palash, CDA Chairman Engineer Nourul Karim, Daily Azadi Editor MA Malek, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, the advisers visited the Hathazari Children's Rehabilitation Center in the morning, talked to the students there and witnessed a cultural performance of the children.
Later, the two advisers visited the Farhadabad Children’s House, a safe custody center for children and adolescents in Hathazari.
Sharmeen S Murshid expressed dissatisfaction after seeing the unhygienic environment of the centre.
She directed the centre’s supervisor to conduct medical check-up of all the detainees every month and maintain hygiene in the centre.
