DHAKA, April 23, 2025 (BSS) - The counsel for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Asif Hasan today said the graft case which was filed in 2023 against seven people, including Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, was only for harassing the Nobel laureate unnecessarily.

"This case should have not been filed against Dr Yunus. There were no materials of criminal liabilities. It was completely unnecessary harassment of a Nobel laureate," he said while expressing his reaction to newsmen as the apex court today quashed the proceedings of a graft against seven people, including Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.

"This whole case was all about a matter of calculation. These types of cases were supposed to be dealt at a civil court. No money laundering or embezzlement cases can be filed here. In addition, no money was embezzled here, because, full money was paid. So, there is no criminal liabilities," senior advocate Asif Hasan added.

A four-member apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed pronounced the judgment, allowing an appeal filed in this regard.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on March 19 had set today for pronouncing its judgment on an appeal filed by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus and six officials of Grameen Telecom against a High Court order that dismissed a plea for cancelling the proceedings of a graft case.

The six other pleaders are Grameen Telecom Managing Director (MD) Nazmul Islam, Directors Ashraful Hasan, Naznin Sultana, Md Shahjahan, Nurjahan Begum and Prof SM Huzzatul Islam Latifee.
