DHAKA, April 24, 2025 (BSS) – BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said BNP will continue its efforts in restoring the country’s democracy at any cost as well as ensure people's voting rights.
"As the country’s largest political party, BNP is always steadfast on establishing democracy and ensuring people's right to vote," he told a virtual training workshop on the party’s 31-point reform outline for repairing state structure and public engagement.
BNP Training Committee organized the event in northern districts, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh as leaders and workers from the three districts joined it on virtual platform from respective districts.
Tarique Rahman urged the party men to attain people trust and confidence and spread the 31-point outline across the country.
He underscored the need for upholding the ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Begum Khaleda Zia.
The acting chairman also joined a question-answer session where he replied to various questions from the leaders and activists participating in the workshop.
BSS Dinajpur Correspondent reports: The event was arranged at Najma Garden in the district town with District BNP President Advocate Md. Mofazzal Hossain Dulal in the chair.
Tarique Rahman said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and former premier Khaleda Zia worked on the development of the country’s education, health, infrastructure sectors and increasing agricultural production.
They ensured the freedom of the press, increased the number of seats for women and took the initiative to make the judiciary independent, he mentioned
Mentioning that BNP has prioritized all issues related to well being of the people, he said, ‘We have to continue working for the welfare of the country and the people. For the past 15 and a half years, the fascist government tried to divide the nation giving various tags to opponents to cling to power.”
“If we want to move our country forward, we have to try to reduce differences and keep the nation united. If the nation is divided, the country cannot move forward. We will build a country of harmony for people of all religions,” he said.
Tarique Rahman said there are about 30 million unemployed men and women in the country. It will not be possible to take the country forward on the path of prosperity by leaving so many people unemployed, he said. Therefore, the employment sector must be increased. “It can be in the government or private sector. It can be through creating employment and creating entrepreneurs in a special project,” he said.
Tarique Rahman said there are many distinguished personalities in society who want to work for the country but they are not involved in mainstream politics .
If voted to power, BNP will bring an opportunity for different professionals including teachers, journalists, lawyers and others to work for the development of the society, he said.
On the question of the international river Teesta, Tarique Rahman said three crore people in the north are involved with Teesta.
“In the past, politics has been done about it. As a result, the fate of the people residing on the banks of river Teesta has not changed. We do not want to do politics rather if we get the opportunity to run the country, we will do the development and planning that will benefit the people” he said.
