Begum Rokeya was pioneer, brave soldier: Sharmeen Murshid

DHAKA, April 26, 2025 (BSS) - Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid has said that Begum Rokeya was not only a pioneer of Bangalee Muslim women's awakening, but also a brave soldier.


"The courage and sacrifices of your generation in the July Uprising in realizing the dream of building a new Bangladesh, are undeniable. You did not bow your heads even in the face of adversity, you (women) were determined for a country free from exploitation and discrimination," she said.


The adviser made these remarks while addressing the 3rd convocation ceremony of Central Women's University held today at the Officers' Club here.


Education Adviser Professor Dr CR Abrar addressed the event as the chief guest with university Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Parveen Hasan in the chair.


Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan addressed the event as the convocation speaker.


Sharmeen S Murshid said arrangements will be made to open internships at the Ministry of Women and Children for those who have completed postgraduate studies, so that you can conduct research on the ministry's administration.


She also congratulated all students who have completed postgraduate.


She said, "You must remember that education does not just give degrees, it makes people aware and responsible. The real purpose of education is to create a search for truth, a commitment to justice, and a sense of responsibility towards society and the environment."
