DNCC, DMP to launch comprehensive campaign against battery-run rickshaws

DHAKA, April 26, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) are to launch to comprehensive joint campaign to halt movement of battery-run auto-rickshaw sealing off their production and charging centres.

“The DMP has by now prepared a list of battery-run workshops which produce auto-rickshaws and their charging centres, they will be sealed off overnight under a joint campaign,” DNCC administrator Mohammad Ejaj said.

He sought the support of the residents of the capital saying if the community in the neighbourhoods raise their voice, it would be easier to drive out illegal battery-run rickshaws and street vendors”.

“Don’t allow entry of battery-run autorickshaws at your households and residential complexes,” he said.

Ahmed made the comments while inaugurating construction of roads, footpaths and drainage systems at Mirpur area today under DNCC’s seven package programmes.

The initiative would yield construction of 20 kilometres of road, 34 kilometres of drainage system and 15 kilomtres of walkway or footpaths in areas covering DNCC’s ward no-6, 7 and 8.

The DNCC administrator simultaneously urged members of different housing societies not to allow as well construction any structure beyond the approved plans alongside disapprove commercial installations in residential areas.

He also urged all buyers to check mouja of land before buying of flats or houses from different housing companies and particularly see if those were if those pieces of lands were water bodies warning that otherwise they could he exposed to difficulties in getting the promised plots.

Ahmed also urged city dwellers to develop open spaces in their neighborhoods as green patches planting big trees instead of small once.

DNCC chief executive officer DNCC Abu Sayeed Mohammad Kamruzzaman, chief engineer Brigadier General M Moin Uddin, additional chief engineer Mohammad Arifur Rahman, zonal executive officer M Ziaur Rahman, superintendent engineer Khandkar Mahbub Alam and convener of North city unit of BNP Aminul Haque were present among others during the event.
