Health adviser visits proposed 500-bed hospital site in Patiya

CHATTOGRAM, April 26, 2025 (BSS) - Health Advisor Nur Jahan Begum today visited the proposed site for construction of 500-bed general hospital in Patiya upazila of the district.

With the today’s visit, the adviser visited Patiya for the second time to find out suitable place for the proposed public health facility to accelerate pace of it’s pre-construction and construction work as well.

Nur Jahan Begum along with high officials of the health ministry and district administration inspected the Saidair area of Ziri Union under the upazila in the morning today.

The interim government is set to construct a 500-bed hospital in Patiya, a middle place of Ctg south region to minimize suffering and dependency of people of the area on Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for healthcare services, officials sources said.

CMCH, the 2,200-bed only referral hospital in public sector in Ctg and other three hill districts have been providing services on an average to 3,300 patients every day.

Considering the growing pressure on CMCH and patient’s sufferings, the government has planned to build another 500-bed hospital in South Chattogram to improve the overall healthcare facilities.

Sharing the government’s plan to ensure and increase the improved healthcare services for the commoners, Nur Jahan Begum expressed her hope that if a public sector hospital is built at this location, it could play an important role in providing healthcare services to the people of the vast south Ctg region, Bandarban and Cox’s bazar districts also.   

Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Dr. Md. Sayedur Rahman, Director of Health Services, Chattogram Division Dr. Ang Sui Pru Marma, District Civil Surgeon Dr. Jahangir Alam, Chairman of KDS Group Khalilur Rahman, Chairman of Mir Group Abdus Salam, Karnaphuli Upazila Nirbahi Officer (acting) Roya Tripura, Karnaphuli Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Mosammat Zebunnesa, among others, accompanied the adviser.

Earlier, on March 16, Advisor Nurjahan Begum inspected another prospective place for the hospital in Harinkhain area of Kusumpura Union under Patiya upazila of the district.
