DHAKA, April 27, 2025 (BSS) - The 'National Legal Aid Day-2025' will be observed tomorrow in a befitting manner. Various initiatives have been taken at the national, district and local levels to observe the day.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul will inaugurate the day. A function will be held at Osmani Smriti Auditorium on this occasion.

The theme of the day for this year is - "Conflict brings no happiness, so embrace compromise, brother. Legal aid is here for you- no need to worry".

National Legal Aid Services Organization has asked the concerned organizations to take necessary measures and to organize rallies marking the day.

In 2013, the government designated April 28 as "National Legal Aid Day" to ensure legal assistance for those seeking justice but facing financial hardship or socio-economic barriers.

Every year, the day is celebrated with great enthusiasm to promote and enhance government legal aid initiatives. As in previous years, necessary steps are requested to be taken at the district level to observe 'National Legal Aid Day-2025' with due dignity at the local level.

The day's programme includes organizing discussions or seminars on the significance of the day, distributing promotional materials or posters, and awarding the best panel lawyer.

These programmes will be implemented by the District Legal Aid Committee, Upazila Legal Aid Committee, Chowki Court Legal Aid Special Committee, and Union Legal Aid Committee.

Human rights organizations, NGOs, relevant police stations, law department faculty and students, as well as officers and employees of the upazila administration have been requested to ensure the participation in the day's program.

National Legal Aid Services Organization has allocated a budget for implementing the planned activities.

As of March 2025, legal services have been provided to 11,95,075 indigent litigants at government expense through the National Legal Aid Service Organization. These services are offered via the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 64 district legal aid offices nationwide, the Dhaka and Chittagong Workers' Legal Aid Cells, and the Government Legal Aid National Helpline Call Center (toll-free number: 16430).
