DHAKA, April 27, 2025 (BSS) - National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah has emphasized the need for globally accepted quality research in higher education, saying the quality of research done at higher studies in the country is not up to the mark.

“Research must be impactful and of global standard," he told a orientation program for the ‘MPhil Leading to PhD’ batch of 2024-25 under the university’s affiliated Institute for Liberation War and Bangladesh Studies (ILBS).

The VC urged new researchers to contribute meaningfully to their respective fields rather than pursuing the research merely for academic credentials.

“Quality must be ensured in every stage of the research process,” he said.

To address the quality gap, the National University has introduced the ‘MPhil Leading to PhD program’, he said, adding, senior faculty members and scholars of high reputation were included in the program as part of quality enhancement initiative.”

He assured that all necessary academic support would be provided to the fellows to facilitate their research endeavors.
NU Pro-VC Md. Lutfar Rahman, Professor Sardar Aminul Islam, Professor Md. Ferdous Hossain, Professor Shah Kawsar Mustafa Abululai, and Professor Dr. Shah Ehsan Habib, who joined virtually from Sydney, Australia also addressed the function.

Acting Director of ILBS Professor Dr. Md. Awlad Hossain chaired the event which was attended by twelve fellows from the fourth batch of the ‘MPhil Leading to PhD program’, alongside faculty members and senior university officials.
