DHAKA, April 28, 2025 (BSS) - The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has provided legal assistance to indigent litigants in 2,78,465 cases at government expense, according to a report published on its website today.

The report, which covers the period from 2009 to February 2025, details the legal aid services provided by NLASO.

Initially launched at the district level, the service has since expanded to the Supreme Court, the Workers' Legal Aid Cell in Dhaka and Chattogram, and prisons across the country.

Out of the 2,78,465 cases where legal aid was provided, 1,46,121 have been successfully settled.

The government funds these legal aid services under the 'Legal Aid Services Act' to help financially disadvantaged and incapable litigants nationwide.
The activities of NLASO fall under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

In celebration of the government's efforts to ensure justice for all, April 28 was declared 'National Legal Aid Day' in 2013. The day is marked annually with various events promoting the legal aid program.
