DHAKA, April 29, 2025 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today ordered 12 leaders
and activists of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), who was acquitted of
the charges in a case lodged over the murder of Chattogram Medical College
(CMC) student Abidur Rahman Abid in 2011, to surrender within 30 days.

A High Court division bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain and Justice Sayed
Jahed Mansur passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed
in this connection.

"The court also issued a rule, asking authorities concerned to explain why
the lower court judgment that acquitted all the accused, shall not be
canceled," pleader's counsel Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir told newsmen.

Abid was brutally beaten by the leaders and activists of the BCL at CMC
student dormitory on October 19, 2011, on suspicion of being an activist of
Chhatra Dal. Abid breathed his last on October 21, 2011.

Abid's uncle Neyamat Ullah filed the case against 22 leaders and activists of
the BCL and CMC student union.

After probing the allegations, police filed the charge sheet against 12 in
February, 2012. But Chattogram Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court
acquitted all the accused of the charges on July 10, 2019.

Later, the plaintiff filed the petition with the High Court (HC).
