THAKURGAON, April 30, 2025 BSS (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said a terrible religious division was created in the country for vested interests though people having different religious faiths have been living together here for ages.

"Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians and members of other faiths are living together for long with communal harmony. Let us not create any division among ourselves. Let us all be united with one goal to establish peace and democracy," he said.

Mirza Fakhrul was addressing a views-exchange meeting with Hindus at Lakshmi Hat under Baragaon Union in Sadar Upazila.

Noting that the people have not been able to vote for the last 15 years, the BNP secretary general demanded a free election to allow the people to exercise their voting rights.

Regarding deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, "We could never have imagined that Hasina would flee the country. This is Allah's justice. No one stood by her. She had to run away and flee this country.

Why? Because she did such a thing that there was no way to stay in this country".

District BNP General Secretary Mirza Faisal Amin, Sadar Upazila BNP President Abdul Hamid and General Secretary Mahabub Hossain Tuhin, also spoke.

Later, the BNP secretary general addressed another public meeting at Munshirhat Girls' High School ground.
