DHAKA, May 24, 2025 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today published the order issued yesterday rejecting a writ petition on Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayoral post.

The seven-page order was published today on the website of the Supreme Court (SC).

“The writ petition is not maintainable as the petitioner is not a Locus Standi,” the HC order said.

HC bench of Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury summarily delivered the order on Thursday.

Supreme Court lawyer and a resident of DSCC Mamunur Rashid had filed the writ challenging the order of the Dhaka First Joint District Judge and Election Tribunal declaring BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as the DSCC mayor.

Senior jurists AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Barrister Kaiser Kamal argued for Ishraque while Deputy Attorney General Mahfuzur Rahman Milon stood for the state.

Judge Md Nurul Islam of Dhaka First Joint District Judge and Election Tribunal cancelled the results of the 2020 DSCC election and announced BNP Leader Ishraque Hossain as DSCC mayor on March 27 last.

Based on the HC order the election commission issued the gazette notification on April 27 last declaring Ishraque Hossain as mayor of DSCC.
