Man to die for killing wife in Barguna

BARGUNA, June 30, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to death 
for killing his wife for dowry in Bamna upazila of the district in 2003. 

Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Begum Lailatul 
Ferdous announced the verdict on Monday.

The death-row convict is Md. Kamal Hossain, 45, son of A. Aziz Hawlader of 
Uttar Kakchira village in Bamna upazila of the district. The convict was 
absconding at the time of the verdict, said Special Public Prosecutor 
Ranjuara Sipu.

According to prosecution, convict Kamal and his family members used to 
torture his wife Jahanara for dowry. On September 30, 2003, Kamal Hossain got 
angry and kicked and beat his six-month pregnant wife Jahanara Begum over the 
matter.

Injured Jahanara was taken to Bamna Upazila Health Complex in critical 
condition where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.

Later, Moslemuddin, father of the victim, filed a case with Women and 
Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on October 22 against nine people.

The judge after examining witnesses and evidence found Kamal guilty and 
handed down the punishment.
