PD to be appointed on merit, competence: Jahangir

DHAKA, July 2, 2025 (BSS) – Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today warned that any kind of lobbying for appointment of project directors will be considered as incompetence.

“Project Directors will be appointed on the basis of the merit and competence. Many officers are lobbying for the appointments. Any kind of lobby in this connection will be considered as incompetence,” he said. 

He was addressing as the chief guest at a meeting to review various projects which are under implementation of Agriculture Ministry at Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council auditorium in the capital’s Farmgate area. 
          
The Home Adviser has given various instructions to the concerned officials regarding protection of top soil, decrease the use of fertilizer, stop building establishments on the arable lands and stop corruption in purchasing the projects. 

Talking to journalists after the meeting about the present market situation, the adviser said the price of rice is high in the market despite bumper production of paddy as well as import of rice in large quantities.     

“The government has been relentlessly trying to contain the price hike of rice,” he said.
