DHAKA, July 2, 2025 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a public notice completely prohibiting carrying of axes, knives, scissors, spears, swords, sticks and bursting of fireworks and crackers in the Tazia processions marking the celebration of Holy Ashura on July 6.

The ban was issued today in a public notice signed by Acting DMP Commissioner Md. Sarwar in virtue of the powers vested in sections 28 and 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/1976).

This order will remain in force from the start of the Tazia processions until the end, it said.

The public notice stated that Tazia processions will be held at various places in the Dhaka Metropolitan areas on the occasion of the holy Ashura celebration on July 06, 2025.

The notice said some individuals participate in the Tazia procession carrying knives, daggers, scissors, spears, swords, sticks, etc., creating undesirable situations in some cases, which created fear and panic in the minds of the city dwellers and posed a threat to public safety.
