Govt. to deploy quick response team to deal with women repression: Sharmeen Murshid

CUMILLA (MURADNAGAR), July 3, 2025 (BSS)- Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid has said the government will assign a quick response team to deal with the matters of women repression and prevent those crimes.

She said this in a meeting of views exchange with the government officials and social leader on the recent incident of rape of a woman at Muradnagar upazila.
The adviser said, “Although the country has strict law against the women and children repression, but those types of crimes are no decreasing.”

Terming the repression on women and children as a a violation of human rights, the adviser said the government would build an appropriate infrastructure to deal with those matters.

The nature of violence against women and children are changing, she said adding the criminals are following new approaches to unlash torture against the women and children in the family, work place, public space and cyber world.

The women are also becoming a victim of cyber bullying. So, the civil society organization and the young generation should come forward jointly along with the government to stamp out the crime, she said.

Meanwhile, a committee has been formed with at Muradnagar Upzila headed by the UNO to prevent and deal with the repression on women and children.

The committee will work for preventing women repression and torture from the grassroots level in the Muradnagar upazia, and it will be replicated across the country, the adviser said.

Joint secretary of the Women and Children Affairs Ministry Dr Prokash Kanti Chowdhury, officials of Cumilla district administration and Muradnagar Upazila, teachers of different educational institutions, July warriors and local journalists were present.
