DHAKA, July 12, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is conducting a special cleanliness and mosquito eradication campaign throughout the month of July, commemorating the historic student-people mass uprising.

As part of the campaign, the drive was carried out in and around Abhoy Das Lane–Narayinda–Wari areas under DSCC Region-5 today. Local Government Division Secretary Md. Rezaul Maksud Jahedi attended the event as the chief guest in the presence of DSCC Administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia.

Starting at 6am, over 600 workers from DSCC’s Waste Management and Health Departments along with local residents participated in the special drive.

As part of the operation, garbage was removed from drains, sewers, and sidewalks, alongside spaying of mosquito repellents. Additionally, a public awareness rally was held with the participation of local residents to raise community consciousness.

While briefing journalists during the drive, Rezaul Maksud Jahedi said “the  most essential element for urban cleanliness is our collective effort. Sustainability cannot be achieved by the city corporation or the government alone.”

Mentioning that the monsoon season poses challenges for the city corporation, he said the campaign would continue to address water logging and control dengue.

The DSCC Administrator said, “  to  commemorate the student-people mass uprising, Dhaka South City Corporation will conduct a month-long special mosquito eradication and cleanliness drive throughout July to control dengue.”

Expressing optimism that dengue can be controlled through the joint efforts of the city residents, DSCC, and the media; he added that the positive outcomes of previous special cleanliness campaigns are already becoming visible.

DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Zahirul Islam, Secretary Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, heads of all departments, and local leaders were present during the campaign.
