DHAKA, July 12, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today announced that every killing that occurred over the past 15 years, including those during the July mass uprising, will be brought to justice.
“When we get the opportunity, we will ensure justice for every killing that has taken place over the last 15 years, including those in July and August. No matter how long it takes, we will gradually bring each of these killers to justice,” he said.
Tarique Rahman made the remarks while virtually attending a meeting as the chief guest with members of the families of those martyred in the July mass uprising.
Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal (JCD) organised the event to mark the anniversary of the July-August Mass Uprising at a hotel in the city’s Gulshan area.
Family members of 142 martyred across the country attended the meeting.
Regarding the recent brutal killing of Lal Chand, alias Sohag, in Old Dhaka's Mitford area, he stated, "We've received information that the person who committed the murder was brought in from another location.”
“Currently, that individual isn't being arrested; instead, others are being caught. They haven't even been named as a suspect yet. Why not? Why isn't that person being arrested? We have never once said that so-and-so shouldn't be caught. Rather, we have repeatedly urged that action be taken against the wrongdoers in accordance with the law,” he added.
The acting chairman added that BNP would work with all its valour to realize the dreams of the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives over the past 15 years for the freedom, sovereignty, and political and economic rights of the people of this country.
"BNP will make every effort to uphold their dignity by fulfilling all commitments made to the martyrs," he said.
Tarique Rahman also said that if they receive the support of the people, BNP will make its utmost effort to implement the 31-point plan for rebuilding the country and restructuring the state, as outlined in their agenda.
He further stated, "To build the nation, the people must be united. We have taken all necessary initiatives to foster this unity as we aim to build the country with everyone's participation."
Regarding the ongoing Reform Commission and the July Proclamation, he commented, "Among those, who are currently in the Reform Commission, only BNP has prior experience in governing. From that standpoint, BNP has agreed on issues that will benefit the country and its people. Today, many are discussing the July Proclamation. However, we clarified the matter of the July Proclamation three months ago."
Clarifying the BNP's political stance, he stated, "The BNP believes that the people of Bangladesh are the source of all political power. BNP believes in the existence of Bangladesh, and in the freedom and sovereignty of its people and we believe that Bangladesh is the party's first and last address."
In this context, he urged everyone to remain vigilant in the current situation, saying, "Our movement to establish democracy and human rights is not yet over. Therefore, everyone must always remain aware."
JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib presided over the event and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir moderated.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Students Affairs Secretary Rokubul Islam Bokul took part in the discussion as special guests.
