DHAKA, July 24, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today sent former Chief Justice
ABM Khairul Haque to jail in a case filed over the killing of Abdul Qaium
Ahad during the July-August mass uprising in the capital's Jatrabari area.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanaullah passed the order
after police produced the 80-year-old former chief justice before the court
and sought his detention until the investigation in the case is completed.

A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Justice Khairul from
the capital's Dhanmondi area early this morning, Dhaka Metropolitan Police
(DMP) Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed.

According to the case documents, Abdul Qaium Ahad was shot in front of the
Kajla Police Box in Jatrabari on July 18, 2025. As he collapsed from the
initial shot, then officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan
allegedly fired multiple rounds at him, killing him on the spot.

Ahad's father, Alauddin, filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station on July
6, 2025, accusing 467 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Justice Khairul Haque is named as the 44th accused in the case.

Justice Khairul served as the 19th Chief Justice of Bangladesh from October
1, 2010, to May 17, 2011. He was appointed chairman of the Law Commission on
July 23, 2013, a position he held through several reappointments.
