DHAKA, July 25, 2025 (BSS) - Four to five victims injured in the recent Milestone jet crash are likely to be discharged on Saturday as their health condition has shown significant improvement, said Prof Dr. Nasir Uddin, Director of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS).

Currently, 40 burn patients are undergoing treatment at the burn unit. Four to five of them are likely to be discharged tomorrow, Dr. Nasir said during a press briefing at the institute this afternoon.

He noted that five of the injured remain in critical condition and are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Ten others are in less critical condition and are under complete bed rest (CPR protocol).

Additionally, 10 more patients are in the post-operative unit, while 15 have been moved to the cabin, he added.

Dr. Nasir also said that two patients who had been on life support have shown signs of improvement. However, two children succumbed to their injuries earlier today at the facility.

A team of international burn specialists from Singapore, China, and India visited the institute and held consultations regarding the treatment of the injured.

"They also visited the patients and discussed potential procedures," he added.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday when an FT-7 fighter jet of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into a two-storey building of Milestone School and College in Uttara shortly after takeoff around 1:00 pm, due to a mechanical failure.

The pilot, Flight Lieutenant Towkir Islam, lost his life in the crash.
