DHAKA, July 27, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the common people of the country want to see a proper democratic system in the country.

"The people of this country want to rise, they want the country's development and they truly want a proper democratic system through which solutions to all issues can be found," he said while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled 'Necessity of Implementing Padma Barrage and Second Padma Bridge.'

The seminar was organized by the 'National Committee for Implementation of Padma Barrage and Second Padma Bridge' at the BRAC Centre in Mohakhali of the city.

National political leaders, economists, educationists and experts were present as at the seminar.

Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam, president of the National Committee for Implementation of Padma Barrage and Second Padma Bridge and former Member of Parliament for Rajbari-1, chaired the seminar.

The BNP secretary general said, "Our party's current acting chairman Tarique Rahman has already committed building a second Padma Bridge. We believe that the livelihoods and security of the people in these regions are involved with this, so if we form the government, we will implement our commitment."

Referring to the ongoing reforms in the country, he said, "Today, many are talking about reform. But we have been talking about reform for a long time. In 2016, under the leadership of Khaleda Zia, we first announced Vision- 2030. Then, in 2022, Tarique Rahman presented his 31-point plan."

As a political party, BNP has very consciously spoken about what the people need and the changes that need to be brought to the state structure, he added.

Mirza Fakhrul observed that all problems could be solved through the unity of the July Uprising forces.

"Through the mass uprising in July, an unprecedented national unity was created among us. If we can bring forward our core issues with that national unity in mind, and if we have unity in our thoughts, we will undoubtedly succeed," he added
