No concession to extortionists: Home Adviser warns

DHAKA, July 28, 2025 (BSS) – Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) has reiterated that no extortionist will be spared. 
 
“No extortionist will be spared, no matter how powerful he might be or which identity he holds,” he said referring to the action taken against the extortionists at Gulshan. 
 
He was replying to journalists after coming out of the core committee meeting on law and order at the Home Ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat here this afternoon.
 
The Home Adviser expressed his resentment over the failure of capturing the godfathers of drug trafficking. 
 
“Carriers of drug trafficking are being held. But, the godfathers escape the arrests. Some of our agencies are liable for it,” he said. 
 
In today’s meeting, Jahangir said they stressed the need for finding way outs to put an end to the menace which reaches every nook and corner in the society. 
  
The adviser said he has recently visited Cox’s Bazar, one of the major routes of drug trafficking, which yielded a positive result as the numbers of arrestees are increasing manifolds.
 
Asked about the training of police personnel ahead of the next general election, Jahangir said that the training for police will start from August and will continue before starting the polls. 
 
“We will start training for police from the month of August,” he said.  
    
About transfer of the Superintendents of Police and Officers-in-Charge ahead of the polls, he said that transfer of the police personnel is a continuous process.
