KHULNA, July 28, 2025 (BSS) -After a prolonged suspension of five months and
ten days, academic activities at Khulna University of Engineering and
Technology (KUET) are set to resume from tomorrow (Tuesday)

Earlier this morning, the KUET Teachers' Association announced a three-week
suspension of their ongoing protest.

Following this, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor (VC), Professor Dr Md
Maksud Helali, officially directed the resumption of classes today afternoon.

Over the past two days, a series of meetings were held involving the VC,
members of the Teachers' Association, deans of various faculties, department
heads, general students, law enforcement officials, and local residents.

The announcement of class and exam resumption has brought a sense of relief
among students.

Professor Faruk Hossain, General Secretary of the KUET Teachers' Association,
said that the protest has been temporarily halted based on assurances from
the VC.

He confirmed that teachers would return to classes once the administration
officially resumes academic activities.

Speaking to journalists, VC Professor Dr Md Maksud Helali said that both
teachers and students have agreed that academic activities and investigations
will proceed concurrently.

Accordingly, classes are scheduled to begin from Tuesday.

The unrest began on February 18 when a clash broke out between general
students and outsiders, over demands to ban student politics on campus.

Over a hundred individuals were injured during the confrontation. That night,
students accused the then VC and several faculty members of siding with the
attackers and reportedly harassed them.

In response to student protests, the Ministry of Education removed VC and
Pro-VC from his position on April 25.

On May 4, the KUET Teachers' Association began boycotting academic
activities, demanding justice for the harassment of teachers. Since then, the
teachers had abstained from taking classes.
