TANGAIL, July 29, 2025 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam today said great political figures like Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq and Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani are the architects of Bangladesh.

"Excluding these figures, only one individual was declared the Father of the Nation and worshipped as such. Without Bhashani, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman could never have emerged," he said at a July Rally at Nirala intersection following the July Street March here in the district town.

Nahid Islam added that the mass uprising of 1969, led by the Awami League, was engineered by none other than Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani.

He further mentioned that after independence, Maulana Bhashani said, "We have broken the shackles of Pindi, not to become slaves of Delhi".

The NCP Convener said they also voiced opposition against how India claimed Geographical Indication (GI) rights over Tangail's traditional handloom (Tant) sarees. "We protested ... India cannot take GI status for Tangail sarees," she said.

The rally was conducted by Chief Coordinator of NCP Nasir Uddin Patwari.

NCP Chief Organizer of the northern region Sarjis Alam said, "After 2024, members of police and other forces will be Bangladesh's own. They will not work for any particular group."

He added, "Extortion still exists in many parts of the country. Extortionists have only one identity- they are extortionists."

"In future Bangladesh, after 2024, media persons should not be seen as activist of any group, individual, or party. Media should not serve the agendas of any person or group," he continued.

The rally was also addressed by NCP organizer for the northern region Azad Khan Bhashani and Chief Coordinator for NCP Tangail Masudur Rahman Russell.

NCP Chief Organizer for the southern region Hasnat Abdullah, Senior Joint Convener Samanta Sharmin, Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Zara, Senior Member Secretary Sarwar Nibha and Dr. Tajnuva were present.

Earlier, at 10:30 am, Nahid Islam paid courtesy visits to the families of the martyrs and injured victims of the July Uprising in Tangail at Prince Hotel. Leaders of the district NCP were present during the visit.
