BRUR celebrates July Uprising Day in festive atmosphere

RANGPUR, Aug 5, 2025 (BSS) - Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) celebrated July Uprising Day-2025 with due dignity and daylong colourful programmes in a festive atmosphere today.

The celebration began with the hoisting of the national flag in the morning by the university's Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Showkat Ali.

Then, he inaugurated and led a colourful rally from the south gate of the university's administrative building.

Teachers, students, officers, and employees of various departments and offices of the university participated in the rally carrying banners and festoons.

Accompanied by musical instruments and a horse-drawn carriage, the rally paraded through the main roads of the campus and returned via Shaheed Abu Sayeed Square, Modern intersection, and Park intersection.

At the end of the rally, the Vice-Chancellor spoke to local journalists.

On the occasion, Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali said the July Uprising is a glorious chapter in the history of Bangladesh. The objectives of the July movement must be achieved.

"The sacrifice of martyr Abu Sayeed, the pioneer of the July Uprising, to build a Bangladesh free from fascism and discrimination, is a rare event in the world," he said.

He added that the sacrifice of martyr Abu Sayeed stands as a shining example of the movement and continues to inspire the young generation in their struggle even today.

He said July Uprising Day was being observed with due dignity and deep respect at Begum Rokeya University.

On the occasion of the day, a friendly match was organized at the university's playground number 1 with participation from teachers, students, officials, and employees.

In the afternoon, a prayer and milad mahfil was held at the university's central mosque after the Asr prayers, seeking forgiveness for the souls of the July martyrs and the speedy recovery of the injured.

In the evening, fireworks were displayed at the university playground.

Later, songs, recitations, and cultural performances were held at the university's Independence Memorial Square to commemorate the July Uprising.

Marking the occasion, special meals were arranged for students of the three residential halls, and various campus facilities were illuminated.
