DHAKA, Aug 08, 2025 (BSS) – Land development for construction of metro rail line-5 (MRT-5) depot at Hemayetpur has been progressed 59.37 percent till July.

The 37.20 km long MRT-5 have two routes- one from Hemayetpur to Bhatara (northern route) and other from Gabtoli to Dasherkandi (southern route).

The 20 kilometre northern route of MRT-5 will be constructed from Hemayetpur to Bhatara with 9 underground and 5 overhead stations in 10 packages, an official of the project said.

The northern route of MRT-5 will have 6.50 km overhead line from Hemayetpur to Amin Bazar and 13.50 km underground line from Amin Bazar to Notun Bazar.

The 17.20 km southern route of MRT-5 will have 13.10 km underground line from Gabtoli to Aftab Nagar West and a 4.10 km elevated line from Aftab Nagar Centre to Dasherkandi. The line will have 11 underground and 4 elevated stations.

Construction work of the MRT-5 was started on November 4, 2023 and scheduled to complete in 2030.

The northern route of MRT-5 will be constructed in 10 packages. The first package has been designed for land development of the depot while civil work and construction of the building will be done under second package.

Construction of stations and main line of the overhead section of the line from Hemayetpur to Bhatara will be constructed under package 3. 

Under package 4, construction of underground station and main line from Aminbazar transition point to Mirpur 1 will be constructed.

Under package 5 construction of underground stations and main line from east of Mirpur-1 station to Kachukhet will be completed.

Underground stations and main line from Kachukhet station to Bhatara transition point will be constructed under package 6.

Under package 7, design, production and installation of Railway electrical and mechanical (E&M) system including signaling, telecommunication, electrification, PSD and ERMS will be developed.

Rolling stock and depot equipment design, manufacturing and installation will be completed under package 8.

According to package 9, construction of track work of depot and main line will be accomplished while design, manufacturing and installation of automatic fare collection (AFC) system will be implemented under package 10.
