DHAKA, Aug 9, 2025 (BSS) - Labour and Employment Ministry Secretary A H M Shafiquzzaman today said the 'Swapno' project is now functioning as a model one to protect workers’ health and nutrition.

“If this ‘Swapno’ project becomes successful, it will be spread throughout the country in future,” he said while visiting the progress of the 'Swapno' project at Ha-Meem Group's Creative Collection Limited factory in Tongi in Gazipur.

Terming workers as the backbone of the country's economy, he said this initiative needs to be expanded to other industrial sectors to ensure their nutrition.

During the visit, the Labour Secretary exchanged views with the Nutrition Development Committee comprising workers, officials and owners of the factory and discussed the successes and challenges of the project.

He also talked to 100 'Nutrition Friends' (workers’ representatives) trained under the project and listened to their experiences.

Noting that workers are suffering from malnutrition in many factories, the secretary said, “Increase the speed of work as it is necessary to ensure good health. The government can only cooperate in this regard.”

Later, the labour secretary visited the fair price shop set up inside the factory.

He witnessed different stalls set up with the technical assistance of GAIN, a  mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving the consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

Director General of the Department of Labour, officials of the Gazipur district of the Department of Factories and Establishments Inspection, high-ranking officials of the Ha-Meem Group and concerned stakeholders were present there.
