DHAKA, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) – The government today decided to bring under three Bangladesh Railway (BR)-run hospitals in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Syedpur under joint management of health services and BR, an official statement said.
It said the decision was taken in a tripartite meeting of Health Services Division, Railways Ministry and Finance Division at Kamalapur Railway Rest House in the capital.
The statement said the development came in line with a previous understanding between the Railways Ministry and health services of the Health Ministry in April and subsequently central managing committee was formed as well.
The meeting today was held under the initiative of the committee to ensure effective health services in the BR-run hospitals, it said.
Finance Division Secretary Dr Md Khairuzzaman Majumder, Health Services Division Secretary M Saidur Rahman, Railways Ministry Secretary Md Fahimul Islam and BR’s Director General Md Afzal Hossain along with senior officials concerned were presen.
Earlier under a government decision Chattogram Railway Hospital and the Chest Disease Hospital in the port city were merged under an identical joint management while it is now called Chattogram Railway General Hospital.
The meeting decided to take a 100-day special programme to determine the tasks of the above three departments for the proper management of the three new hospitals under the joint management.
According to the statement initiatives would also be taken to operate under the joint management the other railway-run hospitals in phases.
Railway employees and their family members as well as common people will be able to receive healthcare services from those hospitals.
Participants of the meeting later visited Kamalapur Railway Station and Dhaka Railway Hospital.
