CHATTOGRAM, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) - Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain today said that those who attempt to desecrate or attack places of worship have no religious identity; rather, they can only be termed as criminals.

"The government is committed to bringing such criminals to justice and ensuring their proper punishment," the adviser said while addressing as chief guest a workshop on "The Role of Temple-Based Child and Mass Education in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals and Disseminating Moral Education" at PTI auditorium in the city this afternoon.

"The long tradition of religious harmony inherited by the people of Bangladesh will continue in the future. Practicing religious rituals should not make us narrow-minded; rather, such sacred practices should awaken and strengthen our values and moral sense," he added.

"Every citizen has the right to practice their respective religions without obstacles. It is our constitutional right. None has the authority to snatch or impede these rights," he further said.

Dr. Khalid also vowed, "We will collectively resist those miscreants who attempt to attack or desecrate places of worship such as mosques, temples, shrines, and madrasas."

Director of the Temple-Based Child and Mass Education Project Dr. Srikanta Kumar Paul spoke on the occasion as special guest.

Presided over by ADC (Education and ICT) Md Sharif Uddin and moderated by Assistant Director of the project Sri Rinku Kumar Sharma, the function was also addressed, among others, by Trustee of Hindu Religious Welfare Trust Dipak Kumar Palit, Parimal Kanti Shill, Advocate Partha Paul Chowdhury, Prof Boby Barua, and Divisional Director of Islamic Foundation Sarker Sarowar Alam.
