BSF hands over 39 detained Bangladeshis at Meherpur frontier

KUSHTIA, Aug 19, 2025 (BSS) - Border Security Force (BSF) today handed over 39 Bangladeshi nationals who were detained different Indian jails to Bangladesh authorities following a meeting at Gangni frontiers of Meherpur, officials said.


They said an assistant commissioner for land led a Bangladeshi delegation comprising Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police representatives while the Indian side was led by a BSF deputy commandant and the meeting was followed by the repatriation process.


BGB’s 47 Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel M Mahbub Murshed Rahman said their Indian paramilitary counterparts handed over the 39 people -- 28 men, nine women, and two children who were detained in different Indian prisons mainly on intrusion charges.


Rahman said Gangni Police Station took the repatriated Bangladeshis to their custody to exhaust subsequent legal procedures while they languished in Indian prisons from 2022 to 2025.


Officials said meeting was held with 11 BSF Battalion at border pillar no 147 at Kazipur border outpost (BOP).
