DHAKA, Aug 23, 2025 (BSS)- Attorney General and Chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council Md Asaduzzaman highly lauded the role of lawyers in the struggle of ousting the fascism from Bangladesh.
“Bangladesh has turned her face from fascism... And the role of our lawyers in the struggle to oust fascism was extraordinary,” he said.
The AG said this while addressing an extended meeting of the Bangladesh Bar Council at Multipurpose Hall Room of the bar council here this afternoon.
He said, during the fascist era, our lawyers provided free service round-the-clock to protect the political leaders and human rights activists.
The attorney general said, “Day after day the workers of the party office dominated the lawyers. We are trying to change the situation by forging unity among the lawyers.
He said, after taking charge of the Bar Council through July Revolution, our main goal was to enrich the legal process and proceed ahead. Regular examination was the first step to reestablish the glory of the bar council, he said.
Bar council will continue its efforts so that lawyers, irrespective of political affiliations can reach to their highest peak of their profession, he said.
“We have to be vocal against corruption and crimes, even if it is someone from our own community, we have to take action,” he added.
Bar council chairman demanded more allocation for judiciary and benevolent fund of the lawyers. Every year judiciary gets only Taka 500 crore from revenue sector. But the allocation should be at least Taka 3000 crore, he observed.
Bar Council Vice-Chairman Senior Advocate Zainul Abedin, Secretary Mohammad Kamal Hossain Sikder, Bar Council Executive Committee Chairman Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal and Bar Council members were present there.
The presidents and general secretaries of 83 district bar associations and bar council officials are attending the two-day meeting.
