12,61,650 people get legal aid at govt expense

DHAKA, Aug 23, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 12,61,650 people have received legal aid at government expense through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) from 2009 to July 2025.

This information was revealed in a report published on the official website of the NLASO.

According to the report, legal assistance was provided to insolvent individuals in 4,35,332 cases during this period.
Of the total recipients, 29,529 people received legal aid through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, while 10,12,777 people were assisted by the Legal Aid Offices operating in all 64 districts of the country.

Additionally, 29,448 workers received legal assistance through the Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram, and 1,89,896 people were served through the National Helpline Call Centre (toll-free number 16430).

The National Legal Aid Services Organization functions under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, with the aim of ensuring access to justice for the financially disadvantaged and marginalized people.
