Bhogra-Purbachal section bypass expressway opened

GAZIPUR, Aug 24, 2025 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan today inaugurated the 18-kilometre Dhaka Bypass Expressway from Bhogra in Gazipur to Purbachal section.

The expressway has been constructed under the project of upgrading Joydevpur-Debgram-Bhulta-Madanpur (Dhaka bypass) road into four lanes.

Addressing the function the adviser said after completion of the project trucks, trailers and other goods-carrying vehicles bound for North Bengal from Chittagong Port will be able to travel to Mymensingh, Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions in a short time without entering Dhaka city, he said. 

He said with opening of the bypass expressway, risk of traffic congestion and accidents in the capital will be reduced.

Fouzul Kabir Khan said an integrated transport plan is being adopted to bring communication system under control. 

“Everyone will have to work together to eliminate the ongoing mismanagement on the roads and highways,” he added.

Dhaka Bypass Expressway Development Company Limited a joint venture of Sichuan Road and Bridge Group (SRBG) of China and local Shamim Enterprise Limited (SEL) and UDC Construction Limited is implementing the project under Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement.

Signed on December 6, 2018 the 25-year agreement will remain effective till May 14, 2047.
 
Construction work of the Dhaka Bypass project is expected to complete in June 2026.

Senior secretary of road transport and highways division Ehsanul Haque, Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department Syed Moinul Hasan and concerned officials were present.
