DHAKA, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS) - In a significant gesture of humanitarian support, 
the Government of China has handed over a large consignment of emergency 
flood rescue equipment to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) to 
enhance the country's disaster response capabilities.

The equipment, comprising 15 types of advanced rescue tools, arrived in eight 
containers and includes 500 life vests, 500 rescue helmets, 500 pairs each of 
boots and gloves, 300 marine first aid kits, 250 rescue ropes, 250 sets of 
rope bags, 100 rubber boats with engines, 100 life rafts, 50 float plates, 50 
rescue panels, 25 soft stretchers, 15 water purification units, 10 diesel 
generators and six seawater desalination units.

The formal handover ceremony took place on Tuesday morning at the BDRCS 
National Headquarters in Dhaka.

Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, adviser to the Ministry of Disaster Management and 
Relief (MoDMR), attended the event as the chief guest with BDRCS Chairman 
Major General (Retd) Professor Dr Md Azizul Islam in the chair.
 
The chief guest emphasized the importance of international cooperation in 
disaster preparedness. 

"Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country. In every emergency, the government 
works closely with humanitarian partners to safeguard lives and property. 
This generous support from China will greatly bolster our rescue operations," 
he added.

"These modern rescue tools will enable our volunteers to respond more 
efficiently to floods, cyclones and tidal surges. The BDRCS remains steadfast 
in its mission to serve humanity and such contributions significantly enhance 
our operational strength," Dr Azizul Islam noted.

The event was attended,among others, by BDRCS Vice-Chairman Dr Tasnim Azim, 
Treasurer Muhammad Aminul Islam, board members, Secretary General, Deputy 
Secretary General, the Head of Delegation of the IFRC, representatives from 
Partner National Societies and officials from the Chinese Embassy.

To conclude the programme, Red Crescent volunteers and officials showcased a 
selection of the newly-donated equipment.
