DHAKA, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS) – A group of students staged a protest rally on Dhaka University campus demanding justice for the attack on Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam in New York recently.
The rally was organized under the banner of “July Revolutionary Students and Citizens,” this afternoon near the anti-terrorist Raju Monument of the Dhaka University here today.
Addressing the gathering, central member secretary of the Revolutionary Students’ Council Fazlur Rahman, said, “Even before the first anniversary of the July Revolution, those who were at the heart of the movement are being attacked. The Awami League which claims to be a democratic party, but in reality, is practicing fascist politics. Even a serving adviser is not spared from attacks. We are receiving death threats as well.”
Referring to the incident in New York, he added, “Adviser Mahfuj Alam was harassed and attacked, yet there has been no protest or statement. The insecurity of an adviser is not just his personal concern, it is a matter of grave worry for all of us. If the success of the revolution is undermined, the Awami League too will not find peace. Everyone must raise their voices against fascism.”
Demanding justice for the attack, he said, if the safety of the adviser is not ensured, the Awami League’s political existence would come under serious question.
Among others, Abdul Wahed, central convener of the Revolutionary Students’ Council, Jihadi Ihsan, assistant member secretary, Maulana Shafiqul Rahman, a July Revolution victim; Abdus Salam, assistant member secretary of the National Revolutionary Council, and Riazul Hasan, organizing secretary of the Hill Tracts Students’ Union, were present at the rally.
Speakers alleged that attacks and death threats on students and citizens have been taking place across the country. They urged the government to take immediate steps to bring the perpetrators to justice.
