26 lakh cubic feet of stones looted from Sada Pathor have been recovered: DC

SYLHET, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS) – Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam today said about 26 lakh cubic feet of stones looted from Bholaganj Sada Pathor have been recovered so far.    

He revealed the information while talking to reporters after visiting Sada Pathor area this afternoon

A three-day deadline set by the Sylhet district administration to voluntarily return the looted stones from Sada Pathor ended this evening. On the final day of the ultimatum, Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam visited the Sada Pathor area.

He said out of the total amount recovered, people returned 6.5 lakh cubic feet of stones voluntarily to the spot, while the remaining about 1.9 million cubic feet of stones were recovered.

The deputy commissioner said legal action will be taken against those found involved in stone looting and this drive will start from tomorrow (Wednesday).

Regarding the restoration of Sada Pathor, he said it is a very difficult task. So far, 11 lakh cubic feet of stones have been replaced and the remaining stones will be restored within a week, he said.

He said 500 workers, 400 boats, and more than 300 trucks are working every day to this end.

Stating that if all the stones are restored, the beauty of Sada Pathor will return to a great extent, Alam said it will not be possible to restore those exactly as they are laid naturally, “but we are trying”.

In response to a question about how much stones were looted, he said it is not possible to say.

Stating that legal proceedings will also be taken apart from the restoration of the stones, he said, those who looted the stones will definitely be brought to justice.

About the district administration's investigation report on the looting incident, he said, "The report has been forwarded to the higher authorities of the government. A high-level probe committee is also working.”
