DHAKA, Aug 31, 2025 (BSS) - The Philippines Ambassador to Bangladesh Nina P.
Cainglet today called for unlocking new avenues of cooperation between
Bangladesh and the Philippines to foster regional peace, prosperity and
sustainable growth.

She was delivering the keynote address at a country lecture titled "Beyond
Bilateral Ties: Unlocking New Avenues in Bangladesh-Philippines Cooperation"
at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS)
auditorium in the capital.

Ambassador Cainglet stressed that the two nations, bound by shared values and
common development priorities, have immense potential to strengthen
collaboration in sectors such as energy, agriculture and education.

"Enhanced bilateral engagement will not only benefit our peoples but also
contribute to regional stability and inclusive growth," she added.

The envoy underscored the importance of diversifying partnerships beyond
traditional areas, urging both governments and private sectors to seize
opportunities in trade, investment and innovation.

BIISS Director General Major General Iftekhar Anis delivered the welcome
address while Professor Dr. Delwar Hossain of the University of Dhaka set the
tone of the programme by tracing the historical roots of Bangladesh-
Philippines relations.

He called for deeper cooperation in maritime affairs, people-to-people
linkages, and economic diplomacy within the changing Indo-Pacific
geopolitical context.

The session was moderated by Ambassador Md Ruhul Alam Siddique, former acting
foreign secretary of Bangladesh.

An open discussion followed the lecture, with senior government officials,
diplomats, academics, media representatives, researchers, and students
offering insights and practical suggestions to deepen Bangladesh-Philippines
ties.
