107th birth anniversary of Bangabir M A G Osmani to be celebrated in Sylhet tomorrow

SYLHET, August 31, 2025 (BSS) – The 107th birth anniversary of Bangabir General Muhammad Ataul Gani Osmani, Commander-in-Chief of the country’s 1971 War of Liberation, will be celebrated in Sylhet tomorrow.

Bangabir Osmani Smriti Sangsad has chalked out an elaborate programme in Sylhet, the birth place of the legendary freedom fighter, to mark the day. 

The programs include placing wreaths and offering ‘Fateha’ at the graveyard of General Osmani at 10am, discussion meeting, Dua mahfil and essay competition in the afternoon. 

Besides, tributes will be paid to the grave of General Osmani after Khatme Quran, Milad Mahfil and Dua at the mosque adjacent to the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R).  

General Osmani was born in 1918 in Sunamganj at a Bengali Muslim ‘Jaminder’ family. He excelled in academics, studied at Aligarh Muslim University, and joined the Indian Military Academy in 1939 and actively witnessed important historical junctures of the country. 

He breathed his last on February 16, 1984 at a UK hospital after being diagnosed with Cancer.
