DHAKA, Sep 1, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) today paid homage to its founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman coinciding with its 47th founding anniversary.
The party leaders and activists are also celebrating the founding anniversary across the country.
Thousands of party members led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir laid wreaths at Ziaur Rahman's mausoleum at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar this morning.
The entire area around the mausoleum was bustling with a huge crowd as activists from various wards of the capital gathered in a procession marking the founding anniversary.
BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, Chairperson's advisor Aman Ullah Aman, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint Secretary Generals Khairul Kabir Khokon, Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Anny, Abdus Salam Azad, central leaders Mir Sarfat Ali Sapu, Kazi Abul Bashar, Saiful Alam Nirab, Dhaka north and south units BNP leaders and leaders of its affiliated organizations, were present.
Following the wreath-laying, the leaders and activists participated in a special prayer, offering a munajat for eternal peace of the departed soul of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman.
BNP was founded on September 1, 1978. To mark the anniversary, the party and national flags were hoisted at the central office in Naya Paltan, the Chairperson's office in Gulshan, and other BNP offices nationwide in the morning.
The party's six-day program commenced with a discussion meeting at the Engineers Institution auditorium at Ramna on Sunday.
A vibrant procession is scheduled to take place at 2pm tomorrow starting from the party office in Naya Paltan. On September 3, similar discussion meetings and processions are planned for upazilas and Paurashava areas across the country.
The programme continues on September 4 with tree planting, releasing fish, free medical camps, and sports events in Paurashava cities, districts, and upazilas. On September 5, a roundtable discussion will be held in the city.
On the anniversary, the BNP has also published posters and special supplements in national daily newspapers.
