DHAKA, Sept 2, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser's Special Assistant on Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb today congratulated Robi Axiata Limited and Grameenphone Limited for launching commercial 5G services in the country.
In a post from his verified Facebook account, he said, "This is a historic step towards a digital future for Bangladesh."
CA's Special Assistant termed the limited rollout of 5G as a vital learning phase for operators and regulators, saying that it will help address technical challenges and understand customer experience.
Faiz stressed the need for expanding 5G nationwide, especially in rural areas calling for building a full 5G ecosystem with affordable devices, AR/VR abd IoT.
He said, "To successfully complete the rollout of the 5G network, it is necessary to facilitate optical fiber."
"After assuming responsibility, we have given the facility of renting DWDM facility and dark fiber to mobile operators," he said.
He said, "Currently, the rate of fiberization of mobile towers is only 20-22%."
According to the new telecom policy, a target has been set to increase this rate to 80%, he said, adding that in addition, initiatives have been taken to establish a National Fiber Bank with unused optical fiber cores.
"A policy of active and passive sharing is coming. We believe that if fiberization is facilitated, the expansion of quality 4G and 5G services in the country will gain momentum. In addition, initiatives have been taken to allocate the necessary frequencies for providing quality 4G and 5G services," he added.
"We will continue to provide full regulatory support to build a modern, future-ready Bangladesh," Faiz said.
