CHATTOGRAM, Sept 2 (BSS) – Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain visited Chattogram University (CU) students who were injured in a series of clashes on Saturday, at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) last midnight.

The Adviser enquired about the overall health condition and treatment of the injured students and directed the CMCH authorities to ensure optimum medical facilities.

He also assured the relatives of the victims that the government would take prompt measures to ensure trial and punishment of those responsible for the heinous attacks on teachers and students.

Dr Khalid also spoke with and consoled the guardians and relatives of the injured students.

Several hundred people, including CU students and teachers—among them Pro-VC (Admin) Dr Md Kamal Uddin and Proctor Tanvir Haider—sustained injuries during the clashes with locals of a village adjacent to the CU campus. Many of them were admitted to CMCH in critical condition.

Expressing deep concern over the incident, the Adviser termed such deadly clashes at a centre of higher learning “very unexpected.”

“Mischief-makers must not be allowed to implement their conspiracy by exploiting this incident,” he warned, urging all concerned, particularly students and local residents, to help restore and maintain peace on campus and in adjoining areas.

CMCH Director Brig Gen Mohammad Taslim Uddin, Additional Director (Admin) Dr Kazi Saiful Islam Azim, Additional Director (Finance) Dr Deb Prashad Chakraborthy and CU Law Department Associate Professor Sayed Ahsan Khalid were present during the visit.
