DU student temporarily expelled over offensive social media remarks

DHAKA, Sept 3, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka University (DU) authorities temporarily expelled a student for six months for making abusive remarks and issuing threats against a female student on social media.

The student, Ali Hussen of Sociology Department (2020-21 session) and a resident of Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Haq Hall, was expelled following the recommendation of a probe committee formed by Proctor office, a DU press release said today.

"This is the highest punishment permissible under the university order within the jurisdiction of the Proctor," the release added.

The complaint has also been forwarded to the university's Sexual Harassment Committee for further action.
