DHAKA, Sept 3, 2025 (BSS) - Professor Dr. SMA Fayez, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, today said that universities are not merely institutions for acquiring knowledge but also platforms for its sharing.

"Teachers and students must work together to generate knowledge. Completing one's studies and becoming educated is not the end of responsibility; one must reflect on what contributions they can make to society and the country," he said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the orientation programme for the 2024-2025 academic sessions of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Tangail, according to a press release.

UGC Member Professor Dr. Mohammad Tanzim Uddin Khan attended the event as special guest.

Tanzim Uddin said, "Teachers and students must carry the ideals of Mawlana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, after whom this university is named. From the very beginning, students must remain focused on their studies; otherwise, they risk sinking into quicksand."

Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Azim Akhand presided over the event, while Member Secretary of the Orientation Programme Committee Professor Md. Fazlul Karim delivered the welcome speech. Professor Dr. Mosammat Nurjahan Khatun conducted the programme.

Prof. Anwarul said, "University life marks the beginning of a new chapter. It is not just a place for acquiring knowledge, but also a golden opportunity for character development and building the future."
Deans of various faculties also delivered congratulatory speeches.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Matiur Rahman (Faculty of Engineering), Professor Dr. Md. Abu Zubair (Faculty of Life Sciences), Professor Dr. Mohammad Idris Ali (Faculty of Science), Professor Dr. Kaniz Mariam Akhtar (Faculty of Business Studies) and Professor Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadeqin (Faculty of Social Science) were present on the occasion.
