DHAKA, Sept 4, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has extended its support to the Afghan people in the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan on September 1, 2025 causing a severe humanitarian crisis.

As part of this humanitarian effort, BGMEA has donated some 2,000 pieces of clothing for the affected communities.

The disaster has so far claimed more than 1,400 lives, injured over 3,000 people, and damaged more than 8,000 houses. A dire humanitarian situation has emerged in that region due to the acute shortage of food, water, shelter, and emergency medical services, said a BGMEA press release.

Following the directives of the Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh, emergency humanitarian aid is being sent to Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating this effort, while the Bangladesh Air Force will transport food, clothing, and medical supplies on a
special flight. BGMEA is participating in this initiative as part of its humanitarian responsibility.

On September 4, 2025, at the BGMEA Complex, BGMEA's Acting Secretary, Major (retd) Md Saiful Islam formally handed over the donated clothing to Lieutenant Commander Fariduzzaman Khan, GSO-2 (Navy), Joint Operations of the Armed Forces Division, Chief Adviser's Office.

He was accompanied by BGMEA's Senior Additional Secretary (Crisis Management), Monsur Khaled, along with senior officials.

BGMEA strongly believes that this humanitarian assistance will stand as a shining example of solidarity with the Afghan brothers and sisters.

At this time of crisis, support from the international community will help alleviate the sufferings of the victims to some extent.
