DHAKA, Sept 4, 2025 (BSS)- Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain today urged the newly appointed UNHCR Representative in Bangladesh to focus not only on mobilising support for the Joint Response Plan but also on exploring practical pathways for the safe, dignified and sustainable return of Rohingyas.

He made the call when UNHCR’s new Representative in Dhaka, Ivo Freijsen, presented his credentials to the adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a press release.

The foreign adviser wished Freijsen a successful tenure in Bangladesh and exchanged views on UNHCR’s ongoing humanitarian assistance for the Rohingyas as well as the implementation of the JRP 2025–26.

Later, Freijsen also called on Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, who stressed UNHCR’s active engagement at the highest level in the upcoming High-Level Conference on the Rohingya situation in New York.

Both sides agreed that the UN-led event will be a critical opportunity to galvanise international attention and action on the crisis.

Freijsen, a Dutch national, brings with him over 30 years of experience in humanitarian affairs, having previously served as UNHCR Representative in Lebanon and Iran.
