Eid-e-Miladunnabi being observed across country

DHAKA, Sept 6, 2025 (BSS) - The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, marking the birth and demise anniversary of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM), is being observed across the country today with due religious solemnity and state honour.

On the 12th of Rabiul Awal in 570 Hijri, Prophet Muhammad (SM) was born in Mecca, bringing divine blessings and a message of peace for mankind. He also passed away on the same day in 632 Hijri. 

The government has declared a general holiday on the occasion, while mosques, Islamic institutions, and various organisations are holding special prayers, discussions, and cultural programmes highlighting the life and teachings of the Prophet (PBUH). 

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has extended greetings to the people of Bangladesh and Muslims worldwide, calling for peace, unity, and devotion to the Prophet's ideals.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, and national dailies are airing and publishing special programmes and supplements highlighting the significance of the day.

The Islamic Foundation is leading nationwide observances, including Quran recitations, rendering Hamd-Na'at, poetry sessions, seminars, and competitions. 

A four-day seminar on the life and works of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is also underway at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, alongside preparations for a month-long Islamic Book Fair to be held on September 13 with participation from publishers at home and abroad.

The book Fair will be held in the eastern and southern courtyards of the National Mosque with around 200 stalls. 

Book publishers from Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, and Lebanon will participate, and the fair will continue daily from 10.00am to 8.00pm.

The Islamic Foundation (IF) has been tasked with organising various religious and cultural events, including Qiraat (Quran recitation), Hamd-Na'at (praise of the Prophet), poetry recitations and a Khutba writing competition in Arabic. 

Under the IF initiative, a range of programmes has been scheduled nationwide, including at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

In a joint initiative with Bangladesh Betar, a four-day seminar on the life and works of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will be held at the Baitul Mukarram Auditorium. 

It will later be broadcast on Bangladesh Betar Dhaka Center's 'K' channel and FM 106 from 10:05 pm to 10:40 pm. The sessions will also be recorded before a live audience at the Islamic Foundation Auditorium.

To mark the occasion, a Seerat memorial featuring writings by prominent scholars, Islamic writers, poets and researchers has been published. 

An Islamic Cultural Competition has been organized for students of schools, colleges, Aliya and Qawmi Madrasas, and government and private universities in Dhaka. 

Students will compete in seven subjects in three groups. The competition will take place at the Islamic Foundation Agargaon office on September 15-16, as award giving ceremony will take place on September 18.

Special sessions of Qiraat Mahfil, Hamd-Na'at, and poetry recitations in honor of the Prophet (PBUH) will be held on September 11 and 17 after Maghrib prayers, and on September 18 after Asr prayers. The IF will also publish commemorative souvenirs and organize seminars during the occasion.

Similar programmes, including waz mahfil and Islamic cultural competitions, will be held at all divisional and district offices of the Islamic Foundation, 56 Islamic missions and eight Imam Training Academies across the country.

For children, the Bangladesh Shishu Academy will organize Hamd-Na'at performances, essay competitions, and discussion sessions.

Additionally, improved diets will be served in military and civilian hospitals, prisons, Shishu Sadan, old-age homes, and orphanages nationwide.

The day is also being be observed with due reverence at Bangladesh's embassies and missions abroad, ensuring a global commemoration of this sacred event.

Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has ordered law enforcement agencies to maintain heightened vigilance and ensure foolproof arrangements, particularly at major mosques and other religious places where large gatherings are expected.

Meanwhile, the government has taken extensive security measures to ensure peaceful observance. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance, with special attention to large gatherings in major cities including Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, Khulna, and Rajshahi. Enhanced surveillance, crowd management, and traffic regulations are in place to ensure smooth and safe observances.
