Ensuring proper use of social media a state responsibility- Dr Khalid

DHAKA, Sept 06, 2025 (BSS)- Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain today said that ensuring proper use of social media is the responsibility of the state. 

“It is essential to reject the falsehood and vulgarism for the sake of standing beside truth and publicity of knowledge in light of Islamic education,” he said.

The adviser said this while addressing the silver jubilee of the International Siratunnanbi (SW) conference at Jinnah Conference Centre in Islamabad in Pakistan, a press release here said.

“If social media is used with honestly and morality with the purpose of welfare in line with the teaching of Rasuluulah, it would be a strong media for mankind,” he said.

Dr Khalid said that the social media has emerged as a strong medium in the present day world which are immensely influencing our mental makeup, education, culture and social values.
 
“If we can ensure the proper use of social media it could be a weapon for bringing positive change in the society by exercising knowledge, giving Islamic Dawat and practicing religious values,” he said.

“But its misuse can be the main cause of vulgarism, practicing wrong theory, spreading rumors and moral decays,” he noted.

Chaired by the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter faith ministry of Pakistan Sardar Muhammad Yusuf, the conference was addressed, among others by Poverty Eradication Minister of Pakistan Imran Shah, Religious Affairs Adviser and Chief Justice of the Shariah Court of Palestine Shaikh Mahmud Sidok, Shariah Council Member of Bahrain Shaikh Adil Abdur Rahman and Secretary of the Darul Iftah of Egypt Abdul Hamid Ragib.

The theme of this year’s conference is ‘The state responsibilities in learning and training for the positive use of social media in light of the teaching of great Prophet’.
