Farida Akhter visits river in Sunamganj,oversees mobile court

DHAKA, Sept 06, 2025(BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today said that the government is committed to protect the fisheries and bio-diversity of the country.

“Stern actions against illegal use of nets and catching fish in breeding season would be continued across the country,” he said this while visiting river at Dhala area under Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district.

The adviser also inspected the activities of a mobile court run by district administration which jailed five fishermen who were fishing with illegal net. 

The court awarded jail for 150 days to the fishermen under section 5(1) of the Fish Protection and Conservation Act-1950 (amended). 

She also praised the activities of the local administration, law enforcing agencies and sought cooperation from the common people in protecting the fisheries.

Among others, Director General of the Fisheries Directorate Dr Md Abdur Rouf, Joint Secretary of the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Shahina Ferdausi, Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj Mohammad Ferdaus Miah and other concerned officials were present at the event.
