DHAKA, Sept 6, 2025 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmin S Murshid today urged the youth community of the country to extend their cooperation to make cyberspace safe for women and children.

“The mass uprising of 2024 taught us that youth have the power to bring positive changes in society...Seventy percent of the participants of mass uprising were girls, many of them are now facing cyberbullying. Our youth must stand up to make cyberspace safe for women and children,” she said.

The adviser made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest at a reception for meritorious students who obtained GPA-5 in the 2025 SSC and equivalent examinations. The event was organized by Capital School and College at the Royal Resort at Sonargaon in Narayanganj.

A total of 199 students who secured GPA-5 in the 2025 SSC examination were awarded crests at the ceremony.

Adviser Sharmin said, “Young people in our country have proved that they can fight for truth and justice. They successfully resisted years of accumulated disorder. We, the elders, should feel ashamed that we failed to resolve that disorder.”

She assured that the next national election would be held on time, saying, “If excessive violence occurs during the election process, it will undermine the credibility of the election. To prevent this, the public must stand with the government and law enforcement agencies.”

She added that the interim government, under the leadership of Prof. Muhammad Yunus, is working for nation-building, and that it will hand over responsibilities to the next elected government so that it could uphold the dignity of Bangladesh with pride.

Commenting on the interim government’s reformation, she said, “Sixteen years of irregularities and corruption cannot be eliminated in a single year. The interim government is prioritizing the welfare of women and children in the new Bangladesh.”

“Alongside parents, every educational institution must take responsibility for the safety of its students. If we fail to guide our children properly, we will lose our place in the world,” she added.

With Chairman of the Executive Committee of Bangladesh Commerce Bank, Md Mohsin Mia in the chair, Additional Deputy Commissioner Naima Islam, UpazilaNirbahi Officer Farzana Rahman, Sonargaon Police Inspector (Investigation) Md. Rashedul Hasan Khan, President of Capital School and College, Akhtar Hossain, and Director Khairul Islam were, among those, who attended the event.
