DHAKA, Sept 8, 2025 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today instructed members of the police force to remain neutral and committed to serving the people, rather than aligning with any political party.
"Don't take sides with any political party. Instead, focus on fulfilling the expectations of the public," he said while addressing a training program aimed at enhancing the skills and capacity of police personnel for professional conduct during election duties.
The event was held at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in the capital, where the Home Adviser was present as the chief guest.
He emphasized the importance of impartiality in law enforcement, warning against sycophancy and political favoritism.
"Stay away from political influence. If you start flattering now, your influence will fade once the election ends. Those who stay reserved will then take control," he cautioned.
Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Md. Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, Senior Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, among others, were present.
Launching the electoral training programme for over 1.5 lakh police personnel, the Home Adviser said the training will increase morale, knowledge and responsibility among the police personnel.
He has asked the police personnel to work in a transparent way and with patience to give the nation a beautiful, fair and impartial election keeping aside the elections held in 2014, 2018 and 2024.
"We have to face all issues with patience and a cool head through the legal process. The more transparent we are in our work, the more we will be able to gain the trust of public," he said.
The Home Adviser instructed all the police officers to stay away from the political parties and help hold an impartial election.
"Do not consider yourself a political activist. Work for the country and the people. I expect the Bangladesh Police to restore the tradition by performing their duties with honesty and impartiality," he hoped.
Jahangir expressed his optimism that the upcoming election will be peaceful and festive.
"The election does not depend only on the law enforcement agencies. A good election is possible with collective efforts of all, the Election Commission and the administration, the people, aspirant candidates and the political parties," he also said.
The Home Adviser said that the interim government wants Bangladesh Police to present the nation with an orderly and safe election that will be an example for the globe.
The cohorts of the fascists are directly creating chaos in the society with many getting out of the jails on bail and getting involved in the misdeeds again.
"We must be careful about this," he said.
Replying to a question about the development in the attack of a shrine in Rajbari district, the Home Adviser said that the Rajbari incident is being investigated and five people have so far been arrested.
"No one involved in the incident will be spared," he warned.
The Home Adviser called upon everyone to be patient, saying that efforts are being made to further improve the law and order situation.
"Many problems will be solved if the people turn to the elections," he opined.
Speaking on the occasion, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Md. Khuda Baksh Chowdhury said that the final test of the police force after July Uprising will be the national election.
"The challenges ahead must be faced appropriately. The police must work with professionalism," he said.
Describing the election a test case for Bangladesh Police, IGP Baharul Alam called upon his colleagues to perform their duties impartially.
